Venecia Santa Lucia is the largest of two train stations that belong to Venice, and is located on the "island" part of the city. The construction became possible only in the end of the 19-th century when the dam protecting Venice was built. The construction works started in 1861 and the station was named in the honor of demolished church of Santa Lucia that was replaced with the station. What to find on the station?
If you're looking for the best view of Venice and its lagoon, you should definitely book yourself a train to Venice Santa Lucia train station, as the most breathtaking view is guaranteed onboard of arriving train.
You will find lots of interesting sights and hidden Venetian gems right next to the exit from the train station. Despite its long and interesting history, the train station can not be called an old one, it is a great and up-to-date transport hub perfect for every traveler needs. The station is located only 20 minutes away from the famous Rialto Bridge and less than half an hour from the symbol of Venice - St. Mark's Square, right on the Grand Canal. Station features 23 platforms, numbered from the right to left if you look at them. Bullet train from Venice to Vienna departs from here. Once you get out from the train station you will find yourself in front of vaporettos (waterbuses), water taxis and traditional Venetian gondolas. |

It is quite easy to find which platform your train arrives or departs from as there are multiple LED screens everywhere, showing the correct platform for your train, normally 20-30 minutes prior to departure. The self-service ticket machines from Trenitalia and Italotreno are located all over the station, equipped with touch screens and available in English. Those machines can make reservations for Interrail or Eurail Pass holders. There are various ATMs options everywhere, as well as two Lounge zones by Trenitalia and Italotreno respectively. Please note that Trenitalia's one is only for holders of Executive class tickets or Trenitalia loyalty cards, and is located near the platform #13. Italotreno offers free WiFi and seating for the passengers of all classes near the platform #14. |
How to get there?
Since Santa Lucia train station is located on the Grand Canal near Piazzale Roma ( Roma Square) it is quite a great meeting point as most of the local and international bus routes have a stop there. In case you arrive in Venice on a car it is a good idea to leave it at Piazalle Roma

parking lot, you just need to cross the Constitution Bridge and you're good to go. However, the most convenient and fast way (though most expensive) is to call any water taxi available in Venice.

From the Mestre Train Station
Reaching Santa Lucia train station from Venezia Mestre train station is quite simple. You just need to cross the bridge between the land and island part of Venice on a train or car.
From San Marco Square
Saint Mark's Square located about 2.5 km away from the Main train station of Venice and normally the distance can be covered in 30-40 minutes. However, in case you don't know the place really well it is recommended to upload a map on your phone or to take Venetian vaporetto (waterbus).
Vaporettos are the most popular means of transport (runned by ACTV company) in Venice and its route #2 runs between St Mark's Square and Santa Lucia Station.
From Marco Polo and Treviso International Airports
There's bus route #5 available from the Marco Polo airport, running almost 24/7 with the break from 1 to 4am. The travel time is around 30 minutes. To find the bus stop at Marco Polo airport you need to leave arrivals hall and leave it from the exit B, until you cross the road to the 2nd lane. You can also use express bus #35 running every 30 minutes with the break from 1 to 5am. The closest stop to Santa Lucia is at Piazalle Roma. The rest of 500 meters can be covered on foot.
To reach the station from Treviso airport you would need to catch ATVO bus that will arrive at the same Piazalle Roma. Right after leaving the arrivals hall you will find a ticket office where you can get ticket for the bus and board it straight after.
